Job Title: Class A Lineman – Transmission (Skilled / High Voltage)
Location: Birmingham, Lincoln, Calera, Gadsden, Tuscaloosa, AL (On-site; Oncor service territory)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $45 – $50 per hour (Based on experience)

Role Overview:
The A Lineman – Overhead performs highly skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical distribution systems. Working on both energized and de-energized lines, this role is responsible for delivering safe, reliable service in challenging field conditions. Experienced linemen may also take on leadership duties, mentoring junior crew members and enforcing strict safety procedures. This position is ideal for seasoned professionals who take pride in precision work and seek long-term growth with an industry-leading company.
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair on overhead electric distribution lines
- String wire, set poles and anchors, and install line hardware including crossarms, insulators, switches, cutouts, and lightning arrestors
- Troubleshoot and repair primary and secondary circuits, replace fuses, and phase out lines
- Climb wood and steel structures safely, working at heights in a variety of conditions
- Use proper safety gear, PPE, cover-up, and grounding practices at all times
- Lead and mentor less experienced crew members when needed
- Conduct pre-job safety briefings, interpret job prints, plans, and work orders
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment in proper working condition
- Operate lifting devices, bucket trucks, diggers, and other equipment as required
- Travel as needed to different project sites and support storm restoration work when called upon
- Outdoor work in all types of weather
- Work at significant heights and around energized electrical lines
- Extended hours, storm restoration duty, and on-call availability as needed
- Physical labor requiring strength, endurance, and focus on safety
Required Background:
- Several years of overhead line work, ideally with prior experience as a journeyman or Class B lineman
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent technical training
- Valid driver’s license, with CDL preferred depending on project needs
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb poles and structures, and work at heights in all weather conditions
- Strong understanding of voltages, phases, grounding, induced voltages, and line protection devices
- Commitment to strict safety practices, including PPE use, lockout/tagout, and OSHA compliance
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to interpret technical documents and work orders
- Willingness to travel or relocate temporarily, and flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and storm response when needed
- Advanced certifications such as CPR/First Aid and safety training preferred
- Experience in both overhead and underground line work preferred
- Prior leadership or foreman experience preferred
- Familiarity with utility standards, codes, and compliance requirements preferred
- Experience with advanced line tools and methods preferred
- Exposure to substation or transmission line work preferred
